How can I even begin to describe this past week?
Words like humbling, challenging, rewarding, eye-opening, joyful, and life-changing come close—but even they can’t capture the fullness of what God did.
Our team traveled to Hato Del Yaque, Dominican Republic, where we stayed at a church through Go Ministries. This week, we worked with concrete on the roof of the church—preparing it for growth. We painted homes in underserved neighborhoods, led Vacation Bible Schools and field days, and spent time with communities, including a Haitian community nearby. But the real work wasn’t just physical. God was moving in every moment.

We were met with overwhelming kindness. The people we met had so little by the world’s standards—and yet, they overflowed with joy and faith. They received us not as strangers, but as brothers and sisters. Though we went to serve them, they ministered to us in ways that left our hearts undone.
Every challenge—the heat, the language barrier, the lack of running water, the parts that didn’t go as planned—was a divine invitation. God used those moments to strip away distractions and remind us of what truly matters. He showed up in our weakness. He taught us how to listen with compassion, how to communicate without words, how to love without limits.

We saw Jesus in every smile, in every hug, in every kind word spoken to us in Spanish or Creole. We heard testimonies of hope rising from deep suffering. We worshipped with people whose joy had nothing to do with circumstance—and everything to do with Christ.
God didn’t just show up—He made Himself unmistakably present.
And among our team, He wove something holy. Relationships were formed that only He could have orchestrated. Hearts were knit together in love and purpose. We laughed, we cried, we prayed, we praised. And we left a part of ourselves behind with the people of the D.R.
Our prayer is to come back changed, to return with eyes wide open, hearts more tender, and a deeper hunger to serve. We carry with us the lessons God wrote into our spirits, and we ask Him to continue the work He started—not just in us, but in our own neighborhoods, our churches, our everyday lives.
May He keep refining us. May He keep teaching us. May we never grow comfortable again.
